One True Father

Some people have never had the opportunity to meet their earthly father; some met this man, but wish they hadn't, while others can't imagine life without Dad.  Standing in the greeting card isle, some people have trouble deciding which sentimental and meaningful card to send to their amazing Dad; others have trouble sending one that simply states 'Happy Father's Day', because it isn't a happy day at all.  Some relationships with earthly fathers are celebrated, some are strained; some are joyful, some are painful; some are close, while others are non-existent.

Today, I'm thankful that I could send this text (see Hallmark eCard image) to my dad, who lives in another state, image1and receive this reply: 'Thanks. Just had a similar breakfast, but not that much bacon.'  I'm grateful he has and continues to support me in many ways throughout my life.  He is a good father.

At the same time, I can't help but reflect on how much more thankful I am to know my

One True Father.

Earthly fathers are human.  Therefore, they are not perfect.  Most do the best they can with what they know in the ever-changing circumstances they are in.  This equates to a large variety of experiences and memories for their children, some to cherish and remember, some to forgive and forget.

The One True Father is not human.  He is perfect.  He never changes, despite the circumstances.  His love is unconditional, unfailing and unending.  He is (click main word for a topical prayer):

Omnipotent (all-powerful, able to do anything)

Omnipresent (all-present, able to be everywhere at the same time) and

Omniscient (all-knowing, able to know everything).

These 3 Omni- (Latin for 'all') words cannot and do not describe anyone's earthly father.  They are reserved for, and can only describe the One True Father, God.

You might already know how much God loves you.  You know that He loved us so much, He sent his beloved son, Jesus, to die for our sins and then rise again and whomever believes in Him will have eternal life in heaven. (John 3:16)

You might not personally know this deep love.  May I just say that as a genuine, loving Father, God longs for you to know Him.  He is patiently waiting with open arms.  It's not about religion; it's about a relationship ... with your One True Father, through His son, Jesus (Here's My Heart prayer).

Experiences and memories of walking through life with this Heavenly Dad (Abba - Galatians 4:4-7) will always be ones to cherish and remember.  Forgive and forget?  That's what He does with our sin.

God, THANK YOU that Happy Father's Day always applies when pursuing a relationship with You, our One True Father!
